On 10 May 2019, at the general assembly of the Hungarian Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers’ Association (MAGYOSZ), beside personnel decisions, the commemorative medals named after Dr. István Orbán were awarded for the 11th time.
It was more than a decade ago that MAGYOSZ established a commemorative medal for acknowledging the outstanding activities carried out in the interest of the development of the Hungarian pharmaceutical industry. The medal that was established in 2009 and bears the name of Dr. István Orbán, the founding President of MAGYOSZ, was awarded to three persons in the jubilee year.
One of the three honourees was Dr. József Béres, President of Béres Pharmaceuticals, whose oeuvre was determined by scholarship and unquestionable quality, and who was committed to serving the emergence of Hungarian brands and Hungarikums. in 1989, in support of his father, he started working with the Béres Joint Stock Company which was established among the first privately owned companies after the change of regime. As the scientific director of the company that had been established for the production and distribution of the Béres Drops, he had played an active role in the launch and construction, and later in the governance of the company which became the largest pharmaceutical company in Hungarian ownership. This work was recognised by MAGYOSZ by awarding the medal.
